Other Services Speed and Compatibility Dynamic DNS - Alternative to Static IP

Compatibility issues may exist between ISDN products. We offer a free two-week trial period so that you may ascertain compatibility. You should test all access numbers that you intend to use.

Our ISDN service is nominally 128 kb/s (2 64kb/s B channels bonded to provide a 128kb/s data path). Most access numbers support STAC compression allowing higher faster speeds. All of the "Eskimo" network numbers support dual channel operation but some of the national network numbers support only single channel operation. In some areas the local telephone company facility only allows 56 kb/s per channel. In those areas dual channel operation provides 112 kb/s.

Dynamic DNS services which map a dynamic IP to a static hostname provide an alternative to a static IP address for many functions such as ETRN polling, Net Meeting, and some VPN applications. You register a hostname with these services and download a small client which runs when you establish your ISDN connection. This contacts their host and then they map a static hostname to the IP address you were assigned. Most of these services are free of charge.
